1. Who we are
Advolaw (“Advo”, “we”, “us”) is a practice workspace for advocates, operated by a sole proprietorship based in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. For the personal data of your own account, we are the data fiduciary under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. For client and case information that you add to your workspace, you decide what is collected and why, and we process it on your behalf to provide the service.
2. What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address, mobile number if you provide it, Bar enrolment number, chamber details and the courts you practise in.
- Workspace content: matters you import or create, notes, hearing dates, documents you upload or sign, fee and time entries, and client contact details you choose to record.
- Subscription records: your plan, payment status and payment references. Card, UPI and bank details are entered with our payment provider and are never stored by us.
- Security records: sign-in sessions, a device label and browser type, a shortened IP address, failed sign-in counts and one-time codes (stored only in hashed form).
- Usage counts: how many searches you run, to apply plan limits.
- WhatsApp settings: if you turn on WhatsApp reminders, the number you verify, the time you gave consent and whether each reminder was delivered.
Your password is stored only as a one-way hash. We do not ask for Aadhaar, PAN or other identity documents.
3. How we use it
- To create and secure your account, verify your email and keep you signed in on trusted devices.
- To fetch case status, orders and cause lists from public court portals for the matters you track.
- To send the reminders and account emails you need, such as sign-in codes and hearing digests.
- To run subscriptions, apply plan limits and keep payment records.
- To detect abuse, investigate problems and keep the service reliable.
We do not sell personal data, show advertising, or use your documents or matters to train artificial intelligence models.
4. Service providers we rely on
We share only what each provider needs to perform its task for us:
- Amazon Web Services (Mumbai region): hosting, database and file storage.
- Google: delivery of verification codes and account emails. Judgment summaries are produced by Google’s Gemini models from publicly available judgments only; your account and workspace data are not sent for this.
- Razorpay: payment processing for paid plans.
- Meta (WhatsApp Business Platform): delivery of WhatsApp reminders, only if you turn them on.
- Court portals: case numbers and party details you search for are sent to official eCourts and High Court portals to retrieve public records.
We may also disclose information when required by law or a valid order of a court or authority, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the service.
6. Storage and security
Your data is stored in India on Amazon Web Services in the Mumbai region. Connections to Advo are encrypted, stored files are encrypted at rest by our storage provider, passwords and sign-in codes are hashed, and accounts are protected by session and device limits. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your personal data, we will notify you and the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires.
7. How long we keep data
We keep your account and workspace data while your account is active. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except records we must keep by law, such as payment and tax records, which we keep only for the period the law requires.
8. Your rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can:
- ask for a summary of the personal data we hold about you;
- correct or update it (most details can be edited in Account settings);
- ask us to delete your account and personal data;
- withdraw consent, for example by turning off WhatsApp reminders;
- nominate another person to exercise these rights if you die or become incapacitated.
To make a request, email admin@advolaw.in from the address registered to your account. We may ask you to confirm your identity before acting on it.
9. Your clients' data
When you record details of your clients or opposing parties, you are responsible for having a lawful basis to do so and for honouring their requests. We will help you export, correct or delete that information when you ask.
10. Children
Advo is meant for legal professionals and is not directed at anyone under 18. We do not knowingly create accounts for children.
11. Grievance Officer
For any concern about how your personal data is handled, contact our Grievance Officer. We acknowledge complaints within 2 working days and aim to resolve them within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
12. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when our practices change and revise the effective date above. For significant changes we will tell you by email or in the app before they take effect. The Terms and Conditions explain the rules for using Advo.
